My whole career as a blogger I have always had myself or my fiance snapping pictures. Typically just on my iPhone or with our personal camera. Even back in my “Wanelo Model” days, my pictures were never professional and they were always curated by me.
I have always dreamed about doing a legitimate shoot for a company. I really wanted the experience and to see if it was something I’d be interested in. Plus, I thought it would be such an amazing opportunity to model and showcase clothes that I adore so much.
Around the Baltimore area I’ve always had a love for the local boutiques. One of my favorite places is “Brightside Boutique”. They opened up their first store in 2012 and continued to open up shops in the hot spots of Baltimore. They even opened up a store in Annapolis.
So, recently one of Brightside’s social media creators/photographers reached out to me and wanted to let me know that she was interested in photographing me for the boutique. Her name is Rachel and I had been already following her for quite some time because her photography and editing skills are amazing.
I was super pumped and so excited to be given this opportunity. Especially for one of my favorite local shops. Not going to lie I was pretty nervous since I had never done anything like this before (I’m pretty sure I ran 4 miles on the treadmill the night before to help my nerves lol).
It was finally time to shoot and it was honestly one of the best experiences. It was so laid back and so much fun. I enjoyed being able to brainstorm together on which items to shoot and how to style them. Rachel made me feel really comfortable throughout the whole process. Next thing I know, we ran out of clothes to shoot and it was all over.
This experience made me realize that, this is something that I’d definitely would like to pursue. It also gave me some confidence for when I’m on my own taking pictures, to create content for myself. Being able to dress up in clothes/colors that I wouldn’t typically pick for myself has broadened my realm of clothing choices. It made me realize that I actually liked how I looked in pieces that I thought were too daring for my wardrobe.
Overall, I’m so thankful for this whole opportunity. I am also thankful it was with a company that I love and with a photographer who has some crazy talent. I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Ill attach Rachel’s Instagram page along with Brightside’s website below!
